DoorDash Restaurant Fees in Canada: Basic, Plus, Premier and Direct Ordering
A current Canada guide to DoorDash restaurant fees covering Basic, Plus and Premier delivery commissions, pickup rates, DashPass, Drive On-Demand and commission-free Online Ordering.
DoorDash does not have one Canadian restaurant commission rate. As of August 29, 2026, DoorDash's public Canadian merchant pricing lists three Marketplace partnership plans for eligible restaurants with 75 or fewer locations: | DoorDash Canada plan | Delivery commission | Pickup commission | | --- | ---: | ---: | | Basic | 20% | 10% | | Plus | 25% | 8% | | Premier | 29% | 8% | Those are public list rates, not a substitute for the agreement on your own merchant statement. Use the restaurant delivery commission calculator with the rate you actually pay before making a channel decision. ## What the DoorDash commission is charged on DoorDash describes Marketplace commission as a percentage of the order subtotal for orders processed through its platform. The commission is intended to cover services such as marketplace exposure, delivery logistics, customer support, technology and payment processing. DoorDash's Canadian pricing page says partnership plans have zero additional payment-processing fees for Marketplace orders. Optional products can create other costs, so an operator should reconcile the full statement rather than multiplying Marketplace sales by one headline percentage and assuming the answer is complete. ## DoorDash Basic in Canada DoorDash currently lists Basic at 20% commission per delivery order and 10% per pickup order. Basic is the lowest public Canadian delivery commission of the three Marketplace plans. DoorDash positions it around nearby customer reach and its core marketplace marketing tools. The lower merchant commission does not automatically make Basic the best economic choice. A restaurant should compare: - order volume by plan;
- average order value;
- incremental customer acquisition;
- customer delivery fees and conversion;
- contribution dollars after commission;
- whether Marketplace orders are incremental or replacing a cheaper channel. ## DoorDash Plus in Canada DoorDash currently lists Plus at 25% delivery commission and 8% pickup commission. Plus includes access to DashPass customers and an expanded delivery area. There is an important exception in DoorDash's current Canadian pricing terms: DashPass delivery orders on the Plus plan are listed at 27% commission per order. That means a restaurant on Plus can have more than one effective delivery rate depending on the order mix. If DashPass is material to your volume, use the actual rate mix from your statement rather than treating every Plus order as 25%. ## DoorDash Premier in Canada DoorDash currently lists Premier at 29% delivery commission and 8% pickup commission. Premier includes the widest public plan reach and a marketing-rebate benefit under DoorDash's published conditions. Whether those benefits justify the higher rate is an acquisition question as much as a fee question. The useful comparison is not simply 20% versus 29%. It is: How much contribution and incremental demand did each commission dollar buy? ## Pickup is not priced the same as delivery DoorDash's current Canadian public pricing lists: - Basic pickup: 10%;
- Plus pickup: 8%;
- Premier pickup: 8%. The published pickup rates are conditioned on compliance with DoorDash's merchant terms, including matching DoorDash Pickup menu prices with in-store prices. If your pickup economics do not match those public rates, your merchant agreement and statement win. ## DoorDash Online Ordering is a different product DoorDash's Canadian pricing page also offers Online Ordering for orders placed through the restaurant's own channels and describes those orders as commission-free. Do not confuse that with DoorDash Marketplace. Marketplace is a demand/discovery channel inside DoorDash. Online Ordering is a restaurant-owned ordering channel using DoorDash technology. Different products can have very different economics even when the DoorDash name appears on both. ## Drive On-Demand uses a flat delivery fee DoorDash Canada currently describes Drive On-Demand as fulfillment for orders placed on the restaurant's own ordering platform. Rather than a percentage commission, the public Canadian pricing page lists a flat delivery fee range of $6.99–$10.99 per delivery order. For a $25 order, a $9 delivery fee is economically very different from a $9 fee on an $80 order. When comparing percentage commission with flat fulfillment, calculate the effective rate at your actual average order value. ## A worked example Suppose a restaurant has: - average delivery order: $42;
- 300 Marketplace delivery orders per month;
- public Plus rate used for illustration: 25%;
- no extra marketing fees included in this example. Marketplace delivery sales: $42 × 300 = $12,600 Commission: $12,600 × 25% = $3,150 per month Annualized: $3,150 × 12 = $37,800 That number is not automatically “money you could save” by leaving DoorDash. Some of those customers may have discovered the restaurant through DoorDash and may not order direct. The calculator is useful because it shows the fee. The business decision still has to value the demand. ## Measure your actual effective take rate A stronger calculation is: Effective marketplace take rate = all marketplace fees you choose to include ÷ marketplace sales Include the fee lines that matter to your decision, which may include commission plus optional advertising/promotions or other percentage/fixed costs from the statement. Then compare that with the retained economics of a direct order. The delivery commission calculator lets you enter actual rates, optional additional fees, pickup mix and direct payment-processing cost. ## Marketplace versus direct is not either/or A restaurant can use Marketplace for acquisition and convenience while building a direct relationship with guests who already know the brand. The right question is usually not “Should I delete DoorDash?” It is: - Which orders are DoorDash genuinely creating?
- Which repeat customers would choose us directly if the path were easy?
- What does each channel cost?
- What customer data and relationship do we retain?
- What operational capacity does each channel consume? Read direct ordering vs third-party delivery for that framework. ## Source and date note Pricing changes.
